Okay guys, so today I finally tried tackling the Astral Plane in Baldur’s Gate 3 after wiping like three times last week. Let me walk you through exactly how I survived that crazy place step by step.
Getting My Party Ready
First thing I did was respec Shadowheart into a Life Domain cleric – no way I was going in without heavy healing. Grabbed Wyll too for Counterspell and Karlach because everything hits like a truck. Stocked up on every speed potion I had and recharged all spell slots by camping right outside the portal.
The Initial Shock
Stepped through the portal and immediately got wrecked by those floating brains shooting psychic crap everywhere. Reloaded and tried something different: had Gale cast Greater Invisibility immediately so he could scout ahead without triggering everything. Saw these glowing purple crystals – didn’t know they’d explode if you hit them!
The Mind Flayer Showdown
Started moving carefully with Karlach drawing aggro while Shadowheart laid down healing zones. Focused hard on one brain at a time. When the mind flayer popped up near the platform, I burned all my action surges and threw alchemist fire at those tentacle things sprouting from the ground. Took Gale getting downed twice but we finally cleared that hellish circle.
Key survival tactics that worked:
- Using pillars for cover against brain blasts
- Throwing health potions at clustered teammates
- Using Command: Halt on the mind flayer
- Having Karlach shove brains off cliffs
Navigating That Messy Central Island
Thought the worst was over until I saw that spaghetti bridge made of dead squid parts. Almost lost Lae’zel to a gravity trap! Learned to quicksave after every step – seriously, just smash F5 constantly. Found the best path was sticking to the left and making my own platforms with dimension door.
Final Discovery
Took me forever to spot that illusion wall near the big skeleton ribs. Had Gale cast Detect Thoughts which finally revealed it. Behind there was the real treasure – that powerful tadpole upgrade and some dope githyanki gear. Totally worth the struggle!
Biggest takeaways: Don’t rush, use choke points, and abuse vertical space. That place will chew you up if you just YOLO through it. Might stream my next attempt with different party comp!
