So, I was mulling over something the other day.

Just one of those random thoughts that pop into your head, you know?
How far is it, really, from Fiji to New Zealand?
You hear about people hopping between them, but what’s the actual distance?
My first step, I didn’t just grab my phone like everyone does these days. Nah.
I tried to picture a map in my mind. Fiji, those lovely islands, sort of floating up there in the Pacific.

And New Zealand, way down south, a bit more substantial looking.
It felt like a decent gap, you know?
Then, I decided to do a little bit of looking around.
Not like I was writing a thesis or anything, just a casual search.
And the numbers I stumbled upon were quite specific.

Turns out, if you’re talking about flying, like a bird or, more realistically, an airplane, the shortest path is around 1,608 miles.
That’s quite a hop, isn’t it? Not just next door.
And for those who think better in kilometers, ’cause some folks do, that same distance comes out to roughly 2,588 kilometers.
So, whichever way you slice it, it’s a fair bit of ocean to cross.
I also saw something about flight times.

If you’re on a typical plane, cruising at an average speed, maybe something like 560 miles per hour, they reckon it takes about 2.87 hours to get from Fiji to New Zealand.
So, you could theoretically have a late breakfast in one spot and be setting down for an afternoon tea in the other. Almost, anyway.
It’s always interesting to me how these distances feel.
Before I looked it up, it was just “far.”
But knowing it’s under 3 hours by plane makes it seem, well, more manageable.

Still a lot of water though!
Just sharing what I found out during my little mental exploration. It’s good to put some numbers to these things sometimes.
