That whole experience made me appreciate TK’s approach even more. It’s not just about baseball, is it? It’s about leadership, managing people, keeping a clear head when things get crazy. Sometimes, the simple, fundamental approach is the most powerful. You don’t always need all the bells and whistles.
It’s funny, you look around today, in sports or even in business, and everything seems so complicated. Data for this, analytics for that, complex systems for everything. Sometimes I wonder if we’ve forgotten how effective that straightforward, steady-hand-on-the-tiller kind of leadership can be. Tom Kelly showed it worked pretty darn well for the Twins.
