So, I finally got around to it. Watching that Jenni film. It’s been on my list for ages, you know? Everyone and their dog seemed to be talking about it a while back, or maybe it was just a few close folks who kept bringing it up. Either way, it stuck in my head as something I needed to check out.

Life, though, has a funny way of just… happening. Work piles up, the house needs things, family needs things. Suddenly, months have gone by, and that film is still just a note on my phone, gathering digital dust. You tell yourself, “Yeah, this weekend for sure,” and then the weekend comes and goes in a blur of chores and trying to catch up on sleep.

Getting Down to It

But last Tuesday, I don’t know, something just clicked. I finished up my stuff for the day, had a decent meal, and thought, “Nope, tonight’s the night. No more excuses.” It wasn’t about making a big production out of it, more like carving out a bit of quiet time for myself, which feels like a luxury these days.

So, the actual “practice” of watching it? Pretty simple, really.

  • First, I made sure the living room was actually tidy. Can’t relax if there’s clutter staring me in the face, you know?
  • Grabbed my old comfy blanket. The one that’s seen better days but feels just right.
  • Made a cup of tea. Nothing fancy, just a regular brew.
  • And importantly, I put my phone on silent and tucked it away. Out of sight, out of mind. That was probably the hardest part, ha!

Then I just… pressed play. Sat there on the couch. The film started. I’m not gonna go into what the film was about, that’s not the point of this. The point was the act of finally doing it, of letting myself just sit and watch something without a million other things pulling at my attention.

After the Credits Rolled

And you know what? It was good. Not just the film, but the whole experience. Just to have that uninterrupted time. It’s funny how we have to actively practice relaxing or doing something for ourselves these days. It used to just happen. Now, it feels like an achievement.

After it ended, I didn’t jump up right away. Just sat there for a bit, thinking. Not even about the film specifically, but more about how easy it is to let these little things slide. These little moments that are actually pretty important for winding down.

So yeah, that was my big adventure: I watched a film. Sounds silly to make a post about it, but sometimes it’s these small, deliberate actions that make a difference in a busy week. It’s a reminder to myself, mostly, to make time for these things. Maybe you feel the same way about something on your own to-do list.
