Alright, so I finally got around to checking out Single Creek Golf. Heard a bit of buzz, figured I’d see what it was all about. You know how it is, always on the hunt for a decent place to swing the sticks without breaking the bank or dealing with too much fuss.

Getting There and First Look

So, I drove out there on a Tuesday morning. The drive itself wasn’t too bad, found the place easily enough. First thing I noticed pulling in was the parking lot. It was pretty basic, gravelly, and I had to kinda guess where a proper spot was. Not a huge deal, but it’s one of those little things you notice, right?

Walked up to what I guessed was the clubhouse. It looked… well, it looked like it had seen better days. A bit weathered, could use a lick of paint. But hey, I’m there for the golf, not the architecture, so I pressed on.

The Pro Shop Experience, or Lack Thereof

Inside, the pro shop was small. The guy at the counter, well, he was there. I paid my green fee, he handed me a key for a cart. Not much chit-chat, no “how’s it going,” no “enjoy your round.” Just the transaction. Felt a bit like I was interrupting his day, to be honest. Again, not the end of the world, but it doesn’t exactly make you feel welcome.

I asked if there was a starter or anything. He just kinda gestured towards the first tee. “Head on out when you’re ready,” he mumbled. Okay then.

On The Course Itself

So, I got my cart, loaded up my bag, and headed to the first tee. No range to warm up, or at least none that I saw or was pointed to. Just straight to it.

The course itself? Man, it was a mixed bag, leaning towards the rough side. The tee boxes were pretty chewed up on a lot of holes. Like, finding a flat, grassy spot was a mini-game in itself. Fairways were… sometimes fair. Lots of thin patches, some spots that were more dirt than grass. You’d hit what felt like a good drive and end up in a terrible lie.

I remember one par 4, maybe the 6th or 7th. Hit a decent tee shot, just off the fairway. The rough there, though, it was like a jungle. Spent a good five minutes looking for my ball, almost gave up. It just swallowed it. Found two other ancient balls in the process, but not mine. That’s always frustrating.

The greens were probably the biggest letdown. They were slow. Like, really slow. And bumpy. Putting was a total guessing game. You’d hit a putt you thought was perfect, and it would just wobble off-line or die way short. Consistency was just not there.

Pace of play wasn’t too bad when I started, but it backed up on the back nine. Saw a couple of groups that were clearly taking their sweet time, no marshal in sight to nudge things along. So, we waited. And waited.

Little Things That Add Up

It’s the little things, you know?

  • Ball washers? Empty or broken on half the holes.
  • Bunkers? Some looked like they hadn’t been raked in days. More like hardpan than sand in a few of them.
  • Cart paths were… adventurous. Hold on tight!

Just felt like the upkeep wasn’t really a priority. Like they were doing the bare minimum to keep the lights on, if you catch my drift.

So, My Takeaway?

Look, I’m not expecting PGA Tour conditions at every local track. I get that. But Single Creek Golf, for me, it just didn’t deliver a great experience. Felt a bit neglected, honestly. I went in hoping for a decent, straightforward round, and came away feeling a bit… meh.

Would I go back? Probably not anytime soon. There are other places I’d try first. It’s a shame, because you can see there’s potential for a nice little course there, but it just needs a whole lot more TLC. So, yeah, that was my day at Single Creek. Just sharing what I found, you know? Maybe you’ll have better luck if you go, but I’m just telling you how it was for me.
