Okay, so I’ve been seeing those customized jerseys everywhere, with people’s names, nicknames, whatever they want on the back. I thought, “I want in on this!” So, I decided to try and put my own name on a jersey I had lying around.
First, I grabbed an old soccer jersey. It was just plain white, nothing fancy. I figured this was perfect for a test run. I didn’t want to mess up a good jersey if I screwed up.
Then, I went to one of my local craft stores. I picked up some iron-on letters. They had a bunch of different fonts and colors, but I just went with plain black letters, about 2 inches high. I also made sure to buy a sheet of that special transfer paper they recommended.
The Messy Part
- I laid out the jersey on my ironing board, making sure it was flat and wrinkle-free.
- Then, I carefully arranged the letters on the back, where the name usually goes. I spent a good amount of time centering it.
- I followed the instructions on the letter package – placed the transfer paper over the letters, and then ironed over it. I was really nervous at this point.
- I kept the iron moving, like they said, for about a minute. I pressed down pretty hard, hoping it would all stick.
After that, I let it cool down completely. The instructions emphasized this, so I waited a good 15 minutes before I even touched it. Then, I very, very slowly peeled off the transfer paper.
And…it worked! Mostly. Some of the letters stuck perfectly, but a couple were a little crooked. And one corner of the “S” didn’t adhere properly. I tried to fix it with the iron again, but it just made it worse. Oh well.
So, it’s not perfect, but it’s definitely my name on a jersey. I learned a lot from this little experiment. Next time, I’ll probably use a smaller jersey, take even more time to align the letters, I might even use a ruler.
Overall, it wasn’t that I do not recommend, I will get it perfect next time for sure!
