Alright, folks, let’s dive into my little project revisiting the 2012 Mets season. I’ve always been a bit of a data nerd, and well, the Mets… they’re my team, for better or worse. So, I figured, why not combine the two?
Getting Started: The Data Hunt
First things first, I needed the data. I wanted game-by-game results, player stats, the whole nine yards. I started digging around, you know, just poking through different websites.
I ended up grabbing most of my raw data after some serious searching. It was a bit of a mess, to be honest – lots of different formats, some inconsistencies here and there. But hey, that’s part of the fun, right?
Cleaning Up the Mess
Next up was the not-so-glamorous part: data cleaning. I spent a good chunk of time just going through everything, making sure dates were consistent, names were spelled right, and all that jazz. It’s tedious, but you gotta do it if you want reliable results.
- Standardizing Dates: So many different date formats! I picked one and stuck with it.
- Fixing Typos: You wouldn’t believe how many ways you can misspell a player’s name.
- Double-Checking Numbers: Making sure all the stats added up correctly.
Analyzing the Numbers
Now for some fun, I started playing around with different ways to visualize the data. I wanted to see things like:
- Win-loss streaks.
- How individual players performed over the season.
I threw together some simple wins charts, nothing too fancy, just enough to get a feel for the * wins and loses in the 2012 season.
Putting It All Together
Finally, I compiled all my findings.I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s not exactly groundbreaking analysis, but it was a fun way to relive a (somewhat painful) Mets season and learn a few things along the way.
